Moshup Beach, Massachusetts

Moshup Beach, located on Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts, is an extraordinary place to visit. Not only are there the typical beach activities, but local tourist attractions that can be found outside of the usual fun in the sun. The area is home to the Gay Head Cliffs which stand approximately 200 feet tall in some spots and provide the overall backdrop for the beach’s atmosphere. The area has very small crowds which can make an excellent getaway for those looking for quiet relaxation. Visitors should be sure to check out the Gay Head Lighthouse which was constructed in 1844. The beach is not an exceptional place for children, however, as some parts of the beach feature nude sunbathing and there are few local activities that advertise themselves as child friendly. This beach seems to cater more towards couples looking for a quite retreat.

Nantucket Island, Massachusetts

Nantucket Island is substantially more family-friendly than Moshup Beach as the island still offers a quiet atmosphere free from large crowds and skyscrapers. Beaches, such as Children’s Beach and Surfside Beach, feature the calmest water currents in the area and have excellent sand for building sand castles. Miacomet Pond is another place that attracts tourists. The pond is a great setting for an afternoon picnic and offers a relaxing atmosphere. The area provides the adventurous with opportunities to rent kayaks or fishing boats for a day of paddling out on the water. Those who want to get exercise while exploring the island are in luck as the island is home to a number of bike trails. Those looking to enjoy shopping will find stores on Main Street such as Murray's Toggery Shop, Peter Beaton Hat Studio, and Nantucket Looms to be most suitable for a leisurely shopping experience.

Provincetown, Massachusetts

Provincetown is another great New England beach location with more than 30 miles of beach in the area, the two most notable locations being Herring Cove and Race Point. The area is home to exceptionally large sand dunes and is decidedly one of the more liberal beaches on the Eastern seaboard. Provincetown is a hot destination for both nude sun bathers and gay and lesbian couples, who all find Provincetown to be among the best places to vacation.
