Hilton Head, South Carolina Hilton head is home to 12 miles of beach that especially caters to families. The atmosphere is more relaxed and those visitors who love golf or tennis will be right at home because the area features some of the greatest golf courses on the East Coast and more than 300 tennis courts dot the area. However, the golfing in the region can be a bit expensive so plan to take extra spending cash should a large number of golf outings be planned. The Plaza at Shelter Cove is an excellent attraction for those with kids as the location offers kayak tours that start at $35 and allow travelers to get up close and personal with some of the creatures of the local region such as dolphins, perhaps a Loggerhead sea turtle. One of the most interesting places to shop is located on the north side of the island and is called the Gullah Market. One of Hilton Head’s favorite bars is called The Bar-Mud-A Triangle while one of the best places for dinner is considered to be Charlie’s L’Etoile Verte which serves up great local seafood for prices between $19 and $28. Kiawah Island, South Carolina This great vacation destination is home to almost 10 miles of beach located approximately 20 miles from Charleston, South Carolina. Beachwalker County Park is a popular tourist beach destination, located on one end of the island, since the rest of the island is very exclusive and entirely private, except for Beachwalker Park. Kiawah Island Golf Resort boasts the 21-acre Night Heron Park which is the perfect place to get exercise while playing basketball, volleyball, or soccer. Nigh Heron Park can also provide parents with a welcome break as the park provides a day camp for children between the ages of three and eleven. Golf lovers will find Kiawah Island to be a paradise as the area is home to some of the best golf courses in the United States, including the Ocean Course which played host to the 1991 Ryder Cup. If travelers are tired of the beach, they can head over to the South Carolina Aquarium which is just a short drive away in downtown Charleston.
